76th Indian Army Day: A proud moment for all Indians

76th Indian Army Day: A proud moment for all Indians

India will observe its 76th Army Day on January 15 in a marked departure from custom. Rather than the traditional big procession in Delhi Cantonment, Lucknow will host this year's inaugural celebration. A fresh chapter in the remembrance of this momentous day in Indian military history has been added by the Center's strategic choice to move crucial events to other parts of the country.

Why is January 15th designated as Indian Army Day?

Every day on this day, people celebrate Army Day in remembrance of General (later Field Marshal) KM Cariappa, who succeeded General Sir FRR Bucher, the final British Commander-in-Chief, as the commander of the Indian Army in 1949. He rose to become Independent India's first Indian Commander-in-Chief.

For the 76th Indian Army Day, what is the theme?

The Indian Army will commemorate 2024 as the "Year of Technology Absorption," according to a statement made by the Chief of Army Staff. This initiative highlights the Army's commitment to using technology as a driving force behind revolutionary transformation.

"Warfare's nature is always evolving. Last year, we started a comprehensive transformation process to better position ourselves for the future. We've advanced well and reached a number of significant turning points. Our efforts in capability building are based on the foundation of Atmanirbharta, to which we are devoted. As part of the Transformation Roadmap, the transformation into a contemporary, flexible, adaptable, and technologically advanced force that is prepared for the future will continue, according to General Manoj Pande.
