Polling for all the 90 Assembly seats in Haryana began on Saturday morning amid tight security arrangements.

There are 1,031 candidates competing for votes in 90 different areas, and a total of 20,632 polling booths are set up for everyone. The results will be announced on October 8, along with those from Jammu and Kashmir.

Around 20.35 million voters are eligible to vote—10.77 million men, 9.58 million women, and 467 third-gender voters. To keep things safe, there will be a strong police presence, with nearly 30,000 officers, 21,196 home guards, and over 10,000 Special Police Officers making sure everything runs smoothly. It's a big day for democracy in Haryana.

Khattar, who previously held the Chief Minister's office for nearly 9.5 years before being succeeded by Nayab Singh Saini in March, is leading the BJP's campaign. Saini is contesting from the Ladwa constituency.

Noteworthy candidates in the election include wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who joined the Congress party on September 6 after her disqualification from the women’s 50 kg final at the Paris Olympics. She’s running alongside fellow Olympian Bajrang Punia, making it an exciting race with some high-profile athletes stepping into the political arena.

Since 2014, the BJP in Haryana has focused on appealing to communities other than Jats, successfully winning the 2014 and 2019 assembly elections by creating a divide between Jats and non-Jats. The party built a strong coalition among non-Jats, gaining significant support from Dalits, Other Backward Classes (OBCs), Punjabi Khatris, and upper castes.

However, there’s ongoing debate about whether Dalits vote as a united group. Some analysts believe that Dalits will lean toward Congress, while others argue that many still support the BJP. To truly understand Dalit voting patterns in Haryana, it’s important to consider the different sub-castes within the community.

Congress does politics of lies, BJP is going to form government for the third time: Nayab Singh Saini

Haryana Chief Minister and BJP candidate from Ladwa assembly seat Nayab Singh Saini cast his vote at a booth in Ambala. Talking to the media after casting his vote, he said, 'I want to appeal to the people of Haryana to cast their votes 100%. The mood of the people of Haryana is clear. BJP is going to form the government for the third time on October 8 with a huge margin. Congress does the politics of lies, they lied during the Lok Sabha elections that the Constitution and reservation will be abolished. Rahul Gandhi has the biggest role in ending reservation. From Jawaharlal Nehru to Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, everyone has talked about ending reservation in the country.

We stand for prosperity of farmers, youth' says Rahul Gandhi

Leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi addressed the voters of Haryana on Saturday, emphasizing crucial state issues such as farmers' welfare, job creation, and women's rights. He encouraged the state's residents to actively participate in the election and support the Congress party.

"Today there is a very important election in the state - an appeal to all the residents of the state, to come out of their homes in large numbers and vote for Congress," Rahul Gandhi wrote in a post on X.

Gandhi underscored the party's dedication to the prosperity of farmers, employment opportunities for the youth, women's safety and respect, inclusive participation, social security, and the well-being of every family. He stressed that each vote for Congress contributes to safeguarding the Constitution and countering the alleged injustices of the BJP.
