Grab the audience's attention the day of your presentation with an amusing story, witty quote, bit of current events, or a personal allusion.
You must find your voice and talk well enough to be heard in order to demand people's attention. Speaking a little bit too loudly is preferable to speaking inaudibly.
While it may be tempting to remain hidden behind the lectern, moving a few feet to the front or side of it allows you to interact with your audience. By shifting your position and facing various directions in the room, you can draw the audience's attention to you and direct it in your direction.
You might feel nervous or lose focus at some point throughout your presentation. Pause, take a deep breath, gather your thoughts, and picture yourself conveying your message successfully.
Your speech gains personality by using suitable body language and hand gestures. Allow your hands to express themselves naturally.
Avoid speaking in a flat, monotone, expressionless manner. Change the pitch of your voice instead. To portray emotion and a level of intensity, use your eyes and facial movements. You may better engage your audience by delivering your message with emotion and life.
Asking the audience for questions is polite and helps you build rapport with your listeners. Additionally, it conveys the idea that you are an authority on the issue. If there is time, answer two or three audience questions while keeping your responses concise. Keep in mind that you are the subject matter expert on the matter at hand in your brief capacity as the speaker.
Your speaking points or a list of the most important questions you intend to answer can be outlined in visual aids or handouts. It may be preferable to hold off on handing out handouts until after your presentation is over because they occasionally serve to draw focus away from you.
