Good news for BSNL! The state-owned company has seen a big increase in subscribers over the past few months. This boost is great for BSNL, which has been behind private telecom companies. After recent price hikes by Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea, many customers are now choosing BSNL.
Recent data from telecom regulator TRAI shows that BSNL's customer base has been growing over the last two months. This growth is due to BSNL’s lower prices and the 'soft launch' of its 4G services.
In July, while major companies like Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea saw a drop in customers, BSNL gained around 3 million new users. Airtel lost 1.7 million, Vodafone Idea lost 1.4 million, and Jio lost about 0.8 million users. In August, BSNL was again the only company to add more customers, gaining 2.5 million new users. Meanwhile, Jio lost 4 million, Airtel lost 2.4 million, and Vodafone Idea lost 1.9 million users.
Market Share:BSNL’s market share is still much lower than its main private competitors. Jio leads with 40.5%, Airtel follows with 33%, and Vodafone Idea has 18%. According to TRAI, BSNL’s share is currently 7.8%, and if we add MTNL’s 0.2%, it goes up to 8%.
Average Revenue Per User (ARPU):BSNL has the lowest prices in the industry, shown by its ARPU. Airtel’s ARPU is Rs 211, Jio’s is Rs 195, and Vodafone Idea’s is Rs 146. In comparison, BSNL’s ARPU is about Rs 90, meaning it charges the lowest rates. One reason for this is that BSNL hasn’t officially launched high-speed 4G yet, while private companies like Jio and Airtel have moved many users to 5G.
BSNL 5G Launch: Good News for Users Ahead of Diwali with New Services:
Ahead of its country-wide 4G launch, BSNL has revealed a new logo that stands for trust, strength, and its reach across India. BSNL also introduced seven new services, including spam protection, a national Wi-Fi roaming service, a fiber-based internet TV, and direct-to-device (D2D) connectivity. Earlier in August, BSNL launched a new 4G and 5G-ready SIM platform, preparing for its network expansion.
BSNL has launched a spam-free network that uses a special solution to block scams and spam messages in real time.
BSNL has introduced a national Wi-Fi roaming service for its fiber internet customers. This allows users to enjoy high-speed internet at BSNL hotspots without paying extra, helping them save on data costs.
BSNL has introduced a cool new feature for people looking to get unique mobile numbers. The company is holding e-auctions for these special numbers. Right now, the auctions are available in three BSNL regions: UP East, Chennai, and Haryana. The UP East auction is live from October 16 to October 22, while the auctions for Haryana and Chennai will start on October 18 and 19, ending on October 27 and 28.
BSNL has launched a new fiber-based TV service that offers over 500 live channels and pay TV options, free for all fiber internet subscribers. The best part is that the data used for streaming TV won’t count against their monthly internet limits.
The new service lets users buy, replace, upgrade, or port their SIM cards anytime, using QR-enabled UPI payments and available in multiple languages.
BSNL is combining satellite and ground mobile networks with its new D2D service. This will be helpful for making UPI payments in emergencies and remote areas.
BSNL is also providing extra services, including India’s first satellite-to-device SMS connectivity, which works on land, in the air, and at sea.
