BJP wins historic third term in Haryana with 48 seats and NC-Congress wins majority in J&K with 48 seats

In Haryana, the BJP did even better this year than when they first took power in 2014, showing they still have a lot of support. Meanwhile, in Jammu and Kashmir, the National Conference, led by Farooq Abdullah, won big by getting 42 seats in their alliance. This shows that regional parties are making a comeback and that voters are changing their minds about who they want in charge. It’s an interesting time in politics.        

On Tuesday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)made history by winning a third consecutive mandate in Haryana, securing 48 out of 90 seats in the assembly. This impressive victory highlights their continued strong support in the state and cements their position in Haryana politics.        

In Jammu and Kashmir,elections were held for the first time since the PDP-BJP coalition collapsed on June 20, 2018, and the abrogation of Article 370. The alliance between the National Conference and Congress achieved an absolute majority, winning 48 seats in the assembly. This marks a significant shift in the region's political landscape.        

Haryana assembly election:

  • The BJP achieved its best-ever performance in Haryana, winning 48 seats—one more than in 2014. The Congress followed with 37 seats, while the INLD secured 2, and three Independent candidates also won. Notably, the JJP and AAP didn’t manage to win any seats.         
  • The BJP contested 89 of the 90 seats, skipping the Sirsa constituency, where its ally Gopal Kanda was the sitting MLA. However, Kanda lost his seat in this election.        
  • The Congress party achieved a notable vote share of 39.09% in this election, marking its best performance in Haryana's assembly elections since 2005, when it won 42.5% of the total votes. This indicates a strong resurgence for the party in the state.        

Jammu and Kashmir election:

  • In the Jammu and Kashmir elections, the National Conference (NC) emerged as the single largest party, winning 42 out of 90 assembly seats.         
  • NC's ally, the Congress, secured 6 seats, while the BJP won 29 seats, and the People's Democratic Party (PDP) managed to secure 3 seats. This election has reshaped the political landscape in the region.        

 

Julana assembly constituency results: Vinesh Phogat wins by over 6000 votes

Wrestler-turned-politician, contesting on a Congress ticket, won the Julana constituency by a margin of 6,000 votes, defeating BJP candidate Yogesh Kumar, ac cording to the Election Commission of India. This victory is significant as it marks the Congress party's first win in Julana since 2005, reclaiming the seat after 19 years. Julana is one of the 90 Legislative Assembly constituencies in Haryana, making this win a notable achievement for the party.
